Professional Piano Tuning & Repair

Upright piano with tuning level laid across its keys

All Piano Types, Tuned With Care

Our precision tuning techniques are customized for all piano types. Whether it’s a family treasure or a new piano, Bay State Piano will help you keep it sounding and playing its best.

Piano Tuning

Although every piano is unique, we tune all brands, sizes, and types of pianos, including upright pianos, grand pianos, and player pianos. Our thorough tuning process delivers:

  • Complete evaluation of current acoustic and mechanical condition
  • Expert pitch adjustments
  • Fine tuning focused on tonal clarity and harmonic balance
  • Inspection for developing mechanical issues
  • Practical advice for optimal instrument care between visits
  • Humidity control assessment and solutions for enhanced stability

Much like how cars need oil changes, pianos need to be tuned regularly. We’ll also install Dampp-Chaser Piano Life Saver Systems to help regulate the level of humidity that works best for your piano.

Schedule a Tuning Appointment

Pianos should be tuned once or twice a year for optimal performance and longevity. Although there are various factors that affect tuning frequency such as piano age, usage, type, and environment, our technicians can help determine what works best for yours.

Signs of your piano being out of tune include lack of chord harmony, uneven tones across keys, and note dissonance or buzzing. Since each note is attached to multiple strings, they should vibrate at the same frequency to produce a crisp, sustained tone. If you’re unsure about whether your piano is out of tune, then it may be worthwhile to consult a professional piano tuner.

Our piano tuners typically take 1½ hours to complete a service. We work efficiently so you can get back to playing your piano as soon as possible!

Dampp-Chaser Piano Life Saver Systems are temperature and humidity control systems that we install inside your piano to preserve the stability of its tuning and action parts.

You do not need to be present during your scheduled service. Just make sure we can get in and we’ll help lock up after we’re done working on your piano!

Generally most pianos have a lifespan of 20-40 years depending on quality of construction, the environment it’s placed in, how often and aggressively it’s played, and how regularly it’s maintained.

Remember to keep it stored in a cool, dry place, keep it out of direct sunlight, and have it tuned routinely. Any time an issue arises, be sure to address it promptly as it can worsen over time.

With expert care, you can extend the lifespan of your piano beyond 50 years.

It depends. In many cases it can be worth it to buy a new piano over repairing an old one, especially if you’re only looking for a cheaper short-term replacement. On the other hand, higher-quality builds can also lead to a higher initial investment with prices ranging from thousands to tens of thousands of dollars (excluding costs such as initial tuning, moving, and storage of the piano).

If your piano holds sentimental value then we can help restore it back to its former glory with our expert repair services.

Get Back on the Keys

We work diligently to repair your piano back to its original condition so that you can get back to playing as soon as possible.
